Tammy is a very professional and caring hygienist. Also, every time I visit the dental office, Angie makes me feel at home, as well as being an efficient and extremely helpful, thorough front office employee. It goes without saying that all my encounters with Dr. Sagili have been extremely positive and work which is high quality and reflects a caring dentist. I highly recommend Lake Advanced Dentistry to all my friends.

A Deep Cleaning a.k.a. Scaling & Root Planing is a deep cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus from deep periodontal pockets and to remove bacterial toxins off of the roots. We use a topical anesthetic for a pain free alternative to shots.

Many patients have inflammation, especially in areas they find difficult to keep clean daily. With the topical anesthetic under the gum line the once sensitive gum tissue is easily debrided, which allows for healing to occur.

A deep cleaning is a procedure designed to help avoid periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is caused by a buildup of calculus, plaque, and stain on the crowns and root surfaces of teeth. It can begin as localized gingival inflammation and progress to serious disease that results in major damage to the soft tissue and the bone that supports the teeth. If periodontal disease is left untreated, it can progress to the ultimate loss of teeth.

In periodontal disease, gingival tissue may detach (pull away) from teeth, and periodontal pockets form. Normally your bone and gum tissue should fit snugly around your teeth. When this supporting tissue and bone is destroyed, “pockets” form around the teeth. Over time, these pockets become deeper, providing a larger space for bacteria to live. Scaling and Root Planing is intended to provide a healthy tissue environment in which tissues re-adapt to normal tooth surfaces.

How is it Different from a Routine Cleaning?

Routine cleanings focus on maintenance of healthy teeth and oral tissues by the removal of calculus, plaque, and common stains. They also help with preventative dental care. Routine cleanings are typically performed twice a year by a Registered Dental Hygienist or dentist.
